The modern small ship is a steel or fibreglass expedition vessel with stabilisers, larger windows and quicker open-water crossings, better suited to longer Bali and Lombok legs.

Getting there is straightforward. Labuan Bajo, on the west tip of Flores in East Nusa Tenggara, is the gateway to Komodo National Park, served by Komodo Airport (IATA: LBJ). - Komodo National Park entrance fees. These are a separate, non-refundable line item paid on top of the cruise fare. The park is managed by Balai Taman Nasional Komodo under Indonesia’s Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK). Exact fee tables are not reliably publishable and change, so any figure should be confirmed and quoted at booking — treat all amounts as subject to change.
- Travel insurance. Operators strongly recommend cover for cancellation, medical emergencies and trip disruption. It is not bundled into the fare.
