Why are Komodo National Park fees a separate line?
Komodo National Park is managed by Balai Taman Nasional Komodo under Indonesia’s Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK). Entrance, ranger and conservation fees are collected by the park, not the cruise line, so they sit outside your fare as a non-refundable line item paid on top. Exact fee tables are not publicly citable and change from time to time, so Arunika quotes the current amount when you book rather than printing a figure that may be stale. Budget for it as a real cost — it covers the rangers who walk you through Komodo and Rinca and the guides on the sunrise trail up Padar.
How does booking and payment actually work?
- Request a live quote. Tell us your route, cabin class and dates, and we confirm the current per-person fare and the park fees.
- Secure your cabin with a 10% deposit. Following the market norm Le Pirate publishes, this deposit is non-refundable.
- Pay the next 25% installment. This portion is refundable only if you cancel 14 or more days before departure.
- Settle the final 65% balance plus Komodo National Park fees. This is due 14 days before departure and is non-refundable from that point.
- Fly into Komodo Airport (LBJ) and arrive a day early. Operators advise arriving in Labuan Bajo one day ahead to absorb flight delays; the port sits about 15 minutes from the airport.
- Meet, cast off, return. Meet at the office at 09:00–09:30 on departure day, cast off at 10:00, and return around 15:00 on your final day.
Shared trips are 16-plus; families with younger children should book a private charter. Travel insurance covering cancellation, medical emergencies and disruption is strongly recommended and is not included in any fare.
When is the best time to sail, and does it move the price?
The Bali–Komodo–Flores corridor is seasonal. Aqua Expeditions, for example, sails the region April to September only, avoiding the harsher weather outside that window, and independent guides single out April to June for lush landscapes, fewer crowds and the clearest water at Manta Point and Pink Beach. Expect the strongest fares and tightest availability inside that window — book early rather than late.
At the premium end, Aqua Expeditions markets an all-inclusive seven-night Bali-to-Komodo voyage that boards at Benoa Cruise Ship Terminal in Bali at 15:00 and reaches Le Bajo Flores in Labuan Bajo at 08:00 — the same comfort small-ship category Arunika occupies on its longer eastbound routes toward Riung, Ende, Maumere and Larantuka. Demand is trending up: Raja Ampat-to-Flores expedition sailings are already scheduled for March 2027, a Smithsonian-style 2027 Indonesia cruise includes Flores and Komodo, and Labuan Bajo remains a government “super-premium” priority with port and marina upgrades tracked toward 2027. How does comfort class compare with budget deck-class boats?
You will see far cheaper numbers online. Shared “deck class” berths on four-day Lombok–Flores–Komodo backpacker boats run about IDR 1.5 million per person, roughly AUD 150, with negotiated child fares near IDR 1 million. Those boats often carry 40-plus passengers, with travellers sleeping in the open air on deck. That is a genuinely different product, and Arunika does not sell it.
